Asia-Pacific Gravity and Geoid Meeting 2027

Static and Time-Varying Gravity for Vertical Datums, Groundwater, and Land Subsidence

January 5–7, 2027 | National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University, Hsinchu, Taiwan

Scientific Program

Preliminary Program
The detailed scientific program will be announced in late October 2026.

5 January 2027 — In-person Asia-Pacific Workshop

The first day will be an invitation-focused, highly interactive meeting for overseas participants, Taiwan researchers, students, and representatives of relevant agencies. The emphasis will be on building working relationships and identifying specific opportunities for regional cooperation rather than on a large number of formal presentations.

Time Activity
09:00–09:20 Opening, welcome, and workshop objectives
09:20–10:30 Taiwan gravity, geoid, and physical height-system programs
10:50–12:20 Short country reports from Southeast and South Asian participants
13:30–14:50 Terrestrial gravimetry for groundwater, hydrology, and land subsidence
15:10–16:10 Regional geoid, vertical datum, and GNSS height-conversion challenges
16:10–17:10 Round-table: Asia-Pacific cooperation, training, data sharing, and joint projects
17:10–17:40 Laboratory/instrument visit and preparation for the field excursion
Evening Informal workshop dinner for invited participants

6 January 2027 — International Hybrid Scientific Meeting

The second day will be the main scientific event and will be open to a wider audience. On-site and online presentations will be integrated within the same sessions.

To facilitate participation across time zones, North American online speakers will be scheduled primarily in the Taiwan morning, while European online speakers will be scheduled primarily in the Taiwan afternoon (Taiwan time = UTC+8 h).

Time Activity
09:00–16:30 Hybrid presentations of invited papers from the Aisa-Pacific region

Presentations will normally consist of 15 minutes for presentation plus 5 minutes for discussion.

Online speakers will be asked to provide a prerecorded backup presentation in advance for technical contingency.

7 January 2027 — Yunlin County Scientific Field Excursion

The third day will demonstrate how geodetic observations are used in an area strongly affected by groundwater extraction and land subsidence.
