Asia-Pacific Gravity and Geoid Meeting 2027
Asia-Pacific Gravity and Geoid Meeting 2027: Static and Time-Varying Gravity for Vertical Datums, Groundwater, and Land Subsidence
Date: January 5–7, 2027
Venue: National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University, Hsinchu, Taiwan
Format: Onsite and hybrid
Organizer: IAG Sub-Commission 2.4e: Gravity and Geoid in the Asia-Pacific
Host: National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University, Taiwan
We are pleased to announce the Asia-Pacific Gravity and Geoid Meeting 2027, to be held at National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University, Hsinchu, Taiwan, from January 5 to 7, 2027.
This meeting aims to promote regional collaboration in gravity, geoid modeling, vertical reference systems, and time-varying gravity applications. In addition to traditional static gravity topics such as geoid determination and vertical datum modernization, the meeting will emphasize emerging applications of terrestrial time-varying gravity in groundwater studies, managed aquifer recharge, and land-subsidence monitoring.
The meeting will provide a platform for researchers, national mapping agencies, geodetic institutions, and young scientists in the Asia-Pacific region to exchange methods, data, and experiences. We especially welcome participation from countries interested in strengthening their gravity, geoid, and vertical reference activities, as well as those exploring terrestrial gravimetry for hydrological and environmental applications.
Tentative program
January 5, 2027 — Onsite workshop
The first day will be an onsite workshop on terrestrial time-varying gravity. The workshop will introduce concepts, instruments, field procedures, data processing, and applications of terrestrial gravimetry for detecting groundwater changes and supporting land-subsidence studies.
January 6, 2027 — Hybrid scientific meeting
The second day will be a hybrid scientific meeting focusing on national and regional results in geoid modeling, gravity field determination, vertical reference systems, and gravity applications. Presentations will be organized under the framework of IAG Sub-Commission 2.4e: Gravity and Geoid in the Asia-Pacific.
January 7, 2027 — Field trip
The third day will include a field trip in central Taiwan to demonstrate how terrestrial gravity is used in practical applications, including high-speed rail monitoring, groundwater recharge assessment, and land-subsidence monitoring.
Participants
We welcome participation from universities, research institutes, government agencies, national mapping organizations, and early-career researchers. Participants from Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Vietnam, and other Asia-Pacific countries are especially encouraged to join.
Limited partial travel support may be available for selected participants, especially young researchers and participants from invited Asia-Pacific institutions. Details will be announced later.
Abstract submission and registration
Information on abstract submission, registration, accommodation, travel support, and the detailed program will be announced in a later update.
